To reduce the reaction time, electric energy consumption and the need for high pressure as well as unsafe conditions, we developed an easy and efficient method for the synthesis of a LiFePO4-graphene-C composite. The cathode material was fabricated in situ in an open system by microwave-assisted solvent treatment. The disc-shaped LiFePO4 nanoparticles were 50-100 nm in size and well dispersed on the surface of the graphene. The cyclic voltammograms, charge-discharge profiles and electrochemical impedance measurements indicated that the electrochemical performances of the LiFePO4-graphene-C were better than those of LiFePO4-graphene and LiFePO4-C composites. The LiFePO4-graphene-C cathode delivered a capacity of 160.1 mA h g(-1) at 0.1 C rate and showed a decay rate of no more than 0.09% per cycle. The effect of graphene on the structure and performance of the composites was investigated.
