▎ 摘  要

Purpose Particulate matter and volatile organic compounds pose severe threats to human health. Thus, this study developed a new filtering material as a protectant against adverse air pollutants. Methods The novel filtering material was fabricated from nonwoven fabric and advanced graphene nanomaterials using a facile immersion method reinforced with a silicone adhesive. Results The prepared graphene-integrated nonwoven fabric exhibited a good distribution of graphene in the fabric matrix. The graphene fabric treated with silicon adhesives exhibited superhydrophobic characteristics with a contact angle of 146.5 degrees C. Water droplets easily ran off the fabric surface with a tilting angle of less than 10 degrees. The obtained graphene-based filtering materials exhibited remarkable performance for removing particulate matter and volatile organic compounds (toluene), with removal efficiencies of 98% and 78%, respectively. The prepared filtering material was washed and reused many times, with only negligible reductions in removal efficiency. Conclusions With the simultaneous removal of both particulate matter and volatile organic compounds, the resultant graphene-integrated non-woven fabric could be a promising filtering material for protective masks.
