Purpose: In this study, graphene oxide was reduced with purple cabbage extract by green synthesis method, which is an inexpensive and efficient method. The use of the obtained RGO as a photocatalyst was investigated. The general flow chart of the study is given in Figure A. Theory and Methods: Graphene oxide synthesized by Hummer's method was reduced with purple cabbage extract. to optimize the synthesis conditions, the reaction temperature was investigated at 25, 50 and 100 degrees C and the effect of reaction time for 1, 2, 4 and 6 hours. The obtained RGO was used in photocatalytic degradation experiments of methylene blue, an organic and cationic dye, from aqueous solution under UV lamp. The effect of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) on the degradation of MB was investigated Results: According to the characterization results, it is founded that reaction temperature of 100 0C and a reaction time of 6 hours were suitable experimental conditions for the reduction of GO. Photodegradation of MB dye with the obtained RGO resulted in 0.25 mg/mL photocatalyst at 5 and 10 ppm dye concentrations and 85% dye removal at the end of 120 min. Conclusion: As a result, GO was efficiently reduced by the green synthesis method. Reduction by green synthesis is environmentally friendly and easy compared to the chemical method. It was concluded tha. RGO was successful used as photocatalyst.
