The processability is important for exhibition of unique electronic, thermal and mechanical properties of gra-phene. Making graphene soluble in water has significantly enhanced its practical application since Si et al. provided water-soluble sulfonphenylated graphene in 2008. In order to realize stable dispersion, this article aimed to increase the degree of sulfonphenylation by adding diazonium salt from sulfanilic acid. With the help of elemental analysis, it was found that the degree of sulfonphenylation of reduced graphene oxide increased with the increase of the dosage of sulfonphenylation reagent at beginning and approached saturation at last when the amount reached a certain level. In addition, through conducting a series of studies on the aqueous dispersion stability of modified graphene, it was concluded that the selection of an appropriate degree of sulfonphenylation could effectively strengthen the stability of the nanofluid dispersion.
