Fluorination is a feasible method to modify the properties of graphene. However, the fluorination methods still meet different limitations such as inconvenient, low-yield, high-cost, etc. Here, a room-temperature method at ambient conditions was presented to synthesize fluorinated graphene oxide (FGO). The obtained FGO had the F content of ca. 28.6 at%. The mechanism of the reaction at ambient conditions was discussed by theoretical calculations, which showed that the oxygen groups facilitated to generate stable C-F bonds by overcoming a low reaction barrier. This work provides an easy synthesis of FGO, broadening the applications of functionalized graphene, for example, increasing the magnetic inducing efficiency to ca. 1.03 x 10(-2) mu(B)/F.
