We report the preparation and performance of a novel electrochemical and luminescent material of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) by the electrophoretic exfoliation method. This is a cost-effective single-step method that utilizes a waste dry batteries material to produce GQDs. GQDs have been characterized for their optical property (absorbance at 279 nm) and size (avg. particle size 6-10 nm). The electrical response surface concentration (3.92 x 10(-15) mol cm(-2)) has been done by electrochemical techniques. The results imply that the produced GQDs show promising characteristics to be used as an effective nanomaterial in biosensing and other applications.
