Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coating has been widely used as a protective coating for Mg alloys. However, it is still a big challenge to further improve its anti-corrosion and anti-wear performance due to the defects form during the PEO process. Here, fluorinated graphene (FG) was introduced as a novel nanoparticle to enhance the anti-corrosion and tribological properties of PEO coating. The corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the PEO coating modified with FG improved significantly. These phenomena were attributed to the addition of FG being beneficial for reducing the porosity and roughness of PEO coating and improving the compactness of PEO coating, and the formation of corrosion resistance component MgF2 in the coating. Meanwhile, the excellent mechanical properties and lubricating properties of FG also give the coating excellent tribological property.
