A luminescent terbium complex was incorporated into graphene oxide and the material was used for monitoring hypochlorite in pure water (detection limit 0.04 mu M). The evidence from the cyclic voltammetry curves revealed that the signal changes of the probe were dependent on the presence of hypochlorite. The emission spectra displayed luminescence quenching effects upon the addition of hypochlorite. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
