The shortage of fresh water resources and how to desalinate seawater have become a worldwide problem. Solar water evaporation is a promising method for seawater purification to provide human with fresh water. Here, the carboxymethyl cellulose modified reduced graphene oxide coated melamine sponge (rGCM) with low cost and favorable performance was prepared via one-step reduction and atmospheric drying technique for efficient evaporation of seawater. The rGCM has extremely high porosity and positive hydrophilicity, which is beneficial to water transportation and steam release. And it can remain stable without collapsing after ten hours for artificial seawater evaporation and its photo-thermal evaporation rate can still reach 90% of the origin. Besides, the ternary composite exhibits excellent light absorbance which can reach 95% in the light range of 250-2500 nm and its photo-thermal evaporation efficiencies for evaporating pure water and artificial seawater are up to 84.45% and 81.98%, respectively. The simple one-step reduction and atmospheric pressure drying technology provides a promising strategy for the low-cost and large-scale preparation of three-dimensional photo-thermal conversion materials with high seawater evaporation performance.
