We investigate the lattice heating and the hot phonon effects on the charge transport in graphene. The evolution of the charge and of the relevant optical phonon modes is reproduced by the semi-classical Boltzmann approach. We study the response of the system to a rapid switch of the bias potential. We compare the behavior of intrinsic and doped graphene. We observe a difference of around one order of magnitude on the current switch time between intrinsic and doped graphene. We study the excitation of the phonon modes and the heating process induced by an out-of-equilibrium distribution of charges.
