Cross-linked polyacrylates (CLPAA) are unique materials because of their valuable applications as super adsorbents. The purpose of this study was to develop a facile method for the preparation of a stable graphene(G) incorporated CLPAA hydrogel (CLPAA/G-HG) as the adsorbent to remove trace levels of chromium(VI) in water treatment. We prepared the CLPAA/G-HG using ammonium peroxidisulphate as the oxidant in the presence of a surfactant. The CLPAA/G-HG adsorbent was characterized using Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The CLPAA/G-HG were used as selective adsorbent for Cr(VI). The results demonstrated that the adsorption capacities of CLPAA/G-HG was greater than that of the gel without containing G. Additionally, CLPAA/G-HG has exhibited 100% Cr(VI) adsorption capacity in a shorter time as compared to G not included HG. We believe that this study will forth bring a new class of G based absorbent with remarkable efficiency for toxic metal ion removal from waste Water in future.
