Nickel oxide (NiO) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composite was synthesized by a hydrothermal method followed by calcination in air. NiO/RGO nanosheets were directly functionalized as supercapacitor electrodes for potential energy storage applications. The results show that the specific capacitance of NiO and RGO/NiO reach 310 F/g and 360 F/g, respectively, at a current density of 0.5 A/g. The RGO/NiO composite shows slightly improved electrochemical performance in comparison with pure NiO, which is attributed to the fact that RGO increases electron transfer rate and provides the volume relaxation space for NiO volume change during the electrochemical process.
