In this work the influence of graphene oxide (GO) coating on the corrosion inhibition of Al substrates (7049 alloy with fifteen elements) in 0.6 M NaCl solution is reported. According to the Raman spectroscopy results GO was formed on the Al. Surface morphology of both untreated Al and the GO coated Al (GO/Al) sample was studied by atomic force microscope (AFM). AFM results showed that by coating the Al alloy surface with GO, the surface becomes smoother and the needle like surface structure of Al changes to strains/lines of grains with valleys between them. Corrosion resistance of the samples was studied by the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) which showed a great enhancement in the corrosion resistance of GO/Al sample relative to that of untreated Al (1237 times). The equivalent circuit for GO/AI sample, using the EIS data showed omission of inductance element that obtained for the untreated Al sample. Further investigation on obtaining relationship between corrosion inhibition and equivalent circuit elements was carried out.
