Graphene plasmonic-based nanophotonic devices are of most interest because of their potential applications in the field of optical communications. Graphene plasmonic wave-guides are studied and the effect of graphene chemical potential modulation is investigated. The chemical potential modulation is applied and controlled via electrical biasing of patterned substrate with different thickness. Energy band diagram analysis of the periodically modulated waveguide shows the creation of a periodic bandgap around 30 THz and the results are confirmed by transmission spectrum calculations, which show a rejected band around the forbidden bandgap of the structure. A further study is performed around structure dependence of filtering mechanism in the proposed structure. (C) 2018 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE)
