The graphene was doped by introducing atomized sulfur gas flow as sulfur source and acetylene as carbon source at 800 degrees C in chemical vapor deposition on copper foil. FE-SEM, TGA, XPS and Raman tests were used to investigate the morphology, thermal behavior and surface properties of the synthesized graphene. A novel, facile and efficient methodology for the synthesis of 1,5-benzodiazepines by the reaction of chalcone with 1,2-phenylenediamine with the mediation of sulfur-doped graphene is described. This method is simple, efficient, environmentally benign, free of toxic catalysts, cost-effective and has good yields for the formation of these seven-membered heterocycles.
