NOVELTY - Diarylene compounds (I)-(IV) are new. The diarylene compound (I) is preferably (I-1) or (II-1). The diarylene compound (II) is preferably (I-2) or (II-2). The diarylene compound (III) is preferably (III-1). The diarylene compound (IV) is preferably (III-2). USE - New diarylene compound used for diarylene-graphene molecular junction device, reversible light control molecular switching device, transistor device, azobenzene-graphene molecular junction device and spiropyran-graphene molecular junction device (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The molecular switching device using diarylene compound has high reversibility and reproducibility. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Diarylene compounds of formulae (I)-(IV) are new. The diarylene compound (I) is preferably of formula (I-1) or (II-1). The diarylene compound (II) is preferably of formula (I-2) or (II-2). The diarylene compound (III) is preferably of formula (III-1). The diarylene compound (IV) is preferably of formula (III-2). Cn=3-4C linear alkylenyl or alkyl optionally substituted with F, Cl, Br and/or I. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) diarylene-graphene molecular junction device, which has diarylene compounds (I) between the gap of two-dimensional monolayer graphene having nano-gap array covalently bonded through an amide; (2) reversible light control molecular switching device, which has diarylene-graphene molecular junction device. The reversible light control molecular switching device is irradiated with ultraviolet light, and has high conductivity state. The reversible light control element switching device further has visible light generating unit and ultraviolet light generating unit; (3) transistor device, which has dielectric layer and semiconductor layer assembled to organic field effect transistor, or diarylene compounds formed between electrode and semiconductor layer assembled to organic field effect transistor; (4) azobenzene compound, which is of formulae (V) and (VI); (5) azobenzene-graphene molecular junction device, which has a covalent bond attached to an array having nanosphere through an amide, two-dimensional monolayer graphene, and/or azobenzene compound; (6) transistor device, which has dielectric layer and semiconductor layer assembled to organic field effect transistor. Azobenzene compound is formed between the semiconductor layers; (7) spiropyranyl compound, which is of formula (VII) or (VIII); (8) spiropyran-graphene molecular junction device; and (9) transistor device, which has dielectric layer and semiconductor layer assembled to organic field effect transistor, or spiropyran compounds between the electrode and semiconductor layer assembled to the organic field effect transistor.
