NOVELTY - An antimicrobial membrane (100) comprises a support (120) and a composite coating (110) provided on the support, and has antibacterial effectiveness of 2 or more. The composite coating contains a crosslinked optionally substituted graphene oxide compound. The graphene is crosslinked using a crosslinker chosen from benzoic acid derivative, optionally substituted biphenyl (I), optionally substituted triphenylmethane (II), optionally substituted diphenylamine or optionally substituted 9H-carbazole (IIIA) or (IIIB), and an optionally substituted bis(hydroxymethyl)propanediol (IV). USE - Membrane used for disinfecting microbes (claimed). Uses include but are not limited to air duct of heating system, ventilation system, and air-conditioner, ship hull's, treatment basins, pipes, desalination filters, air filters, hospital equipment and furnishings, counter-tops, and lavatory furnishing. ADVANTAGE - The membrane has excellent antimicrobial effect and selective permeability with respect to water and oxygen.
