NOVELTY - Synthesizing ammonia, comprises: providing a reaction chamber within a reactor with a heterogeneous catalyst; activating the heterogeneous catalyst using electromagnetic energy having a frequency of 13.5-50 GHz, where the activating the heterogeneous catalyst initiates a chemical reaction; conveying a flow of a reactant gas mixtures into the reaction chamber via an entry port, where the reaction chamber pressurizes the reaction chamber to a pressure of 0.5-1000 atm; contacting the reactant gas mixture with the heterogeneous catalyst; and reacting the reactant gas mixture in contact with the heterogenous catalyst, thus providing a product gas mixture, the heterogeneous catalyst comprises a catalyst support comprising a cerium oxide, and/or a lanthanum oxide, the cerium oxide comprises cerium(lll), and/or cerium(IV), and the lanthanum oxide comprises lanthanum(lll). USE - The process is useful for synthesizing ammonia. ADVANTAGE - The process exhibits improved energy efficiency, allows efficient pairing with renewable energy resources, reduced capital and operating costs. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Synthesizing ammonia, comprises: providing a reaction chamber within a reactor with a heterogeneous catalyst; activating the heterogeneous catalyst using electromagnetic energy having a frequency of 13.5-50 GHz, where the activating the heterogeneous catalyst initiates a chemical reaction; conveying a flow of a reactant gas mixtures into the reaction chamber via an entry port, where the reaction chamber pressurizes the reaction chamber to a pressure of 0.5-1000 atm; contacting the reactant gas mixture with the heterogeneous catalyst; and reacting the reactant gas mixture in contact with the heterogenous catalyst, thus providing a product gas mixture, the heterogeneous catalyst comprises a catalyst support comprising a cerium oxide, and/or a lanthanum oxide, the cerium oxide comprises cerium(lll), and/or cerium(IV), and the lanthanum oxide comprises lanthanum(lll), the heterogeneous catalyst comprises a catalyst metal comprising at least one metal comprising groups 6-12, and the catalyst metal comprising rhodium, iridium, osmium, ruthenium, platinum, palladium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, and/or zinc, where the catalyst metal is present in a content of 0.1-15 wt.% the heterogeneous catalyst has a heterogeneous catalyst temperature of 40-800° C, the reactant gas mixture comprises nitrogen and hydrogen and the product gas mixture comprises ammonia. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for heterogeneous catalyst comprising a catalyst support comprising a cerium oxide, and/or a lanthanum oxide, the catalyst is capable of interacting with electromagnetic energy having a frequency of 13.5-50 GHz.
