NOVELTY - Compound sulfur cathode material comprises sulfur-containing active material and sulfur cathode reaction promoter. The mass percentage of the sulfur cathode reaction promoter is 0.5-60%. The sulfur cathode reaction promoter is layered metal phosphate. USE - The battery is useful in large-scale energy storage, mobile and wireless electronic device, electric tool, hybrid power, electric vehicles and other fields (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The metal phosphate: has excellent adsorption effect on polysulfide; and promotes the conversion reaction of polysulfide to lithium sulfide. The battery exhibits higher capacity retention rate, cycle performance and rate performance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) preparing the cathode material, comprising heat treating at 150-200 degrees C for 8-48 hours when the sulfur-containing active material is orthogonal sulfur, orthorhombic sulfur, monoclinic sulfur and/or elastic sulfur, and heat treating at 280-400 degrees C for 3-36 hours when the sulfur-containing active material is sulfurized polyacrylonitrile, sulfurized polypyrrole, sulfurized polythiophene, sulfurized polyparaphenylene, sulfurized polyphenylacetylene, sulfurized polyaniline and/or sulfurized polyphenylene sulfide; (2) compound sulfur electrode containing the compound sulfur cathode material, comprising compound sulfur cathode material, conductive agent and adhesive, where the mass percentage of compound sulfur cathode material is 20-90%, the mass percentage of the conductive agent is 5-40%, the mass percentage of the adhesive is 5-40%, the thickness of one side of the electrode film is 5-150 mu m, the mass of the electrode film per unit area is 0.1-45 mg/cm2, the conductive agent is acetylene black, Black Pearls 2000, Ketjen carbon black, super-P, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, activated carbon and/or graphene, the adhesive is aqueous adhesive or oil-based adhesive, the oil-based adhesive is polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and the aqueous adhesive is LA132, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, polytetrafluoroethylene, agar or starch; (3) synthesizing compound sulfur electrode, comprising adding the compound sulfur cathode material, conductive agent and adhesive to the solvent, using stirring or ball milling or sand milling to mix uniformly to make slurry, coating the slurry on one or both sides of the cathode current collector by means of knife coating, spraying or coating, and drying to prepare compound sulfur cathode, where the current collector used is metal foil or carbon material, the metal foil comprises aluminum foil, iron foil and copper foil, and the carbon materials are foamed carbon, carbon paper, carbon cloth and carbon felt; and (4) lithium-sulfur battery based on the compound sulfur electrode, comprising anode of lithium metal or lithium alloy or pre-lithiated graphite or pre-lithiated carbon microspheres or pre-lithiated silicon-based materials, where the lithium alloy is alloy of lithium and magnesium, calcium, boron, aluminum, silicon, germanium, tin, lead, indium, antimony, bismuth, iron or zinc, and the mass content of lithium in the alloy is 10-90%.
