NOVELTY - System (S1) for microbe monitoring comprises: a sample collection device comprising at least one substrate coated with, or otherwise displaying, at least one microbe-targeting molecules (MTMs); and a detection device. USE - The system is useful for: monitoring microbe, where the microbe is a pathogenic microbe or monitoring microbial pathogen (all claimed); and detecting, preventing, and treating infectious disease. No biological data given. ADVANTAGE - The system: enables public participation e.g. via engagement in outbreak detection through crowd sourced or citizen science initiatives or via targeted prevention messaging so that individuals and communities can access digital care pathways for an integrated clinical and public health system of detection, care and disease control; and can communicate with a database capable of receiving, organizing, and analyzing detailed, real-time data directly from the detection devices e.g. rapid-testing infectious disease tests, which improves disease surveillance and epidemic preparedness. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) microbial pathogen monitoring comprising collecting a sample using a sample collection device under conditions permitting binding of a microbe-associated molecular pattern in the sample to MTMs, and detecting a microbial pathogen in the sample; and (2) a system (S2) for microbe monitoring comprising either (A) a sample collection device comprising the substrate coated with, or otherwise displaying, the MTMs, (B) a detection device, and (C) a communication device, or the components (A)-(B) as per se, and at least one databases.
