NOVELTY - Composite particles (300) comprise capsule comprising crumpled sheets of graphene material, and core encapsulated with capsule. The core comprises electrochemically active material (102), and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) (301) arranged in capsule and/or core. USE - Composite particles for negative electrode of electrochemical cell (claimed) e.g. secondary lithium ion electrochemical cell. Uses include but are not limited to consumer electronics, wearable computing devices, military mobile equipment, satellite communication, spacecraft devices and electric vehicles. ADVANTAGE - The composite particles have crumpled ball-like particle structure providing both high free volume and high compressive strength, and provide high quality anode.
