NOVELTY - A multi-functional graphene comprises graphene, cationic polymers, and active agent, where the active agent comprises a surface active agent, cell penetrating peptide, and/or nuclear localization signal peptide; and the cationic polymer and active agent is connected to the graphene. The multi-functional graphene as carrier is dispersed in water, salt water solution, cell culture medium, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), dimethyl formamide (DMF) and/or glycerol. USE - As multi-functional graphene as carrier and gene transfection reagent (claimed); used in cell biology research, production and gene products, and gene therapy. ADVANTAGE - The multi-functional graphene increases gene transfection process stability, dispersibility, biocompatibility, has reduced toxicity, and can take several gene transfection promoting mechanisms to increase transfection efficiency. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparation of multi-functional graphene involving 1) dispersing graphene oxide (1 g) in water (100 ml), adding cationic polymer (1 g), 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3-ethylcarbodiimide imine (0.2 g), ultrasound, stirring, and reacting for 5-24 hours, filtering, washing, to obtain the cationic polymer functionalized graphene oxide dispersed in water; 2) dispersing graphene oxide (1 g) in water, adding cationic polymer (0.5 g) containing amino end groups, surface active agent (0.5 g), 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-3- ethylcarbodiimide (0.2 g), stirring, and reacting for 5-24 hours, filtering, washing, to obtain the cationic polymer and surfactant functionalized graphene oxide dispersed in water; 3) adding the step (1) or (2) made of a cationic polymer functionalized graphene oxide, or a cationic polymer and surfactant functionalized graphene oxide to 4-(N-maleimide methyl) cyclohexane-1-succinimide ester sulfonic acid sodium salt (sulf o-SMCC) (0.1 g), stirring, reacting for 0.5-4 hours, filtering and washing to obtain the activated functional graphene oxide, adding sulfhydryl containing end groups (0.1 g), cell-penetrating peptides and/or nuclear localization signal peptide for 5-24 hours, filtering, washing, to obtain multi-graphene oxide.
