NOVELTY - Membrane (I) comprises a crosslinked graphene platelet polymer comprising many crosslinked graphene platelets including a graphene portion and a crosslinking portion, where the crosslinking portion contains a 4-10 atom link, and the crosslinked graphene platelet polymer is produced by reaction of an epoxide functionalized graphene platelet and a (meth)acrylate or (meth)acrylamide functionalized crosslinker. USE - The membrane is useful in a filter module which is used: to increase purity of a liquid including aqueous physiological liquid or water; to concentrate composition of interest (i.e. rare-earth element) from the liquid or gas (all claimed); and in water filtration, immune-isolation (i.e. protecting substances from an immune reaction), timed drug release (i.e. sustained or delayed release), hemodialysis and hemofiltration. ADVANTAGE - The membrane removes or reduces at least one deleterious contaminant from the liquid or gas. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) membrane (II) comprising the crosslinked graphene platelet polymer comprising many crosslinked graphene platelets including (a) the graphene portion and the crosslinking portion, or (b) many graphene platelet portions and many crosslinking portions bound to the graphene platelet portions, where the crosslinking portions provide a spacing of 1 nm between individual graphene platelet portions; (2) a filter module comprising at least two separate membranes (I) or (II) , where each membrane is functionalized in a different manner; (3) producing (M1) a filter or membrane composition, comprising reacting at least one functionalized graphene platelet with at least one di-, tri- or tetra-functional crosslinking compounds; (4) increasing (M2) purity of a liquid, comprising contacting a first portion of liquid having an impurity with the filter or membrane to form a second portion of liquid, where the second portion of water contains a lower concentration of the impurity; (5) producing (M3) membrane composition, comprising oxidizing graphene platelet with an acid and an oxidizing agent at 1-10 degrees C to form functionalized graphene platelet, and reacting the functionalized graphene platelets with the di-, tri- or tetra-functional crosslinking compounds; (6) producing (M4) membrane precursor, comprising oxidizing the graphene platelet with the acid and the oxidizing agent at 1-10 degrees C to form functionalized graphene platelet, and reacting the functionalized graphene platelets to form capped moiety that is not reactive under ambient conditions, but capable of converting to a reactive moiety upon, e.g. chemical, heat or UV treatment; and (7) concentrating (M5) composition of interest from a liquid or gas, comprising contacting first portion of liquid or gas having a material of interest with the filter to form second portion of liquid or gas, where the second portion of liquid or gas contains lower concentration of the material of interest, and collecting the composition of interest that does not pass through the crosslinked graphene platelet polymer.
