NOVELTY - Adsorption of heavy metals in water involves dissolving graphene and carbon nanotubes in an organic solvent, forming a complex solution, adding complex solution to wastewater containing heavy metal ions, stirring at room temperature, maintaining for predetermined time, applying external magnetic field and purifying heavy metal ions in the sewage. The graphene sheet is an oxidized graphene sheet, a reduced graphene oxide sheet, a modified reduced graphene sheet or a modified graphene oxide sheet. The content of graphene sheet in the complex is 1-99 %mass. USE - Adsorption of heavy metals in water (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The heavy metal ions contained in wastewater are removed completely and economically. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Adsorption of heavy metals in water involves dissolving graphene and carbon nanotubes in an organic solvent, forming a complex solution, adding complex solution to wastewater containing heavy metal ions, stirring at room temperature, maintaining for predetermined time, applying external magnetic field and purifying heavy metal ions in the sewage. The graphene sheet is an oxidized graphene sheet, a reduced graphene oxide sheet, a modified reduced graphene sheet or a modified graphene oxide sheet. The modified reduced graphene sheet and the modified oxidized graphene sheet have a surface active group chosen from carboxyl group, epoxy group, acyl chloride group, hydroxyl group, mercapto group, amino group and polyethylene glycol. The carbon nanotubes are single-walled carbon nanotubes, multi-walled carbon nanotubes, oxidized single-walled carbon nanotubes, oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes, modified single-walled carbon nanotubes and modified oxidized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The content of graphene sheet in the complex is 1-99 %mass.
