NOVELTY - Preparing 5-hydroxymethyl furoic acid comprises placing 5-hydroxymethyl furfural and catalyst in a mixed solution of water and organic solvent under air and/or oxygen conditions, and carrying out a catalytic oxidation reaction. The catalyst is obtained by mixing the carrier, the basic nitrogen-containing complex and the active component precursor in a solvent, heating in water bath, refluxing and stirring, and orderly drying and roasting the mixture, where the active component precursor comprising rhodium chloride, palladium chloride, chloroplatinic acid and/or ruthenium chloride, and carrier comprising activated carbon, graphite, fullerene and/or graphene oxide. USE - The method is useful for preparing 5-hydroxymethyl furoic acid. ADVANTAGE - The method is environmental friendly: utilizes high activity and high product yield catalyst; does not need to be carried out in an alkaline environment; easily separates the product; and solves the complicated problem of subsequent acid treatment in the traditional preparation process of 5-hydroxymethyl furoic acid.
