NOVELTY - Preparing a functionalized graphene having an ultrahigh specific surface area, comprises uniformly stirring concentrated sulfuric acid, graphite powder and sodium nitrate in an ice-bath and then adding potassium permanganate, adding deionized water in mixture and then adding aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution, centrifuging mixture to separate graphite oxide, carrying out a vacuum drying process, followed by crushing and screening to obtain graphite oxide powder, placing powder into a tube furnace and then irradiating using infrared ray, and heating and then cooling powder to obtain graphene. USE - The process is useful for preparing a functionalized graphene having an ultrahigh specific surface area (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The process is capable of simply preparing the functionalized graphene with less energy consumption. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing a functionalized graphene having an ultrahigh specific surface area, comprises uniformly stirring concentrated sulfuric acid (95-98 wt.%), graphite powder and sodium nitrate in an ice-bath and then adding potassium permanganate, further uniformly stirring the mixture and then reacting at 30-38 degrees C for 24-120 hours, adding deionized water in the mixture and then adding aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution (30 wt.%), centrifuging the mixture to separate graphite oxide, carrying out vacuum drying process at 50-120 degrees C, followed by crushing and screening to obtain 1-40 microns of graphite oxide powder, placing the graphite oxide powder into a tube furnace and then irradiating using infrared ray, heating the graphite oxide powder at 350-1000 degrees C for 10-20 minutes, and then naturally cooling to obtain the functionalized graphene having a specific surface area of 400-1500 m2/g, where a ratio of concentrated sulfuric acid, graphite powder, sodium nitrate, potassium permanganate, deionized water, aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution and diluted hydrochloric acid is 230-750 ml:810 g:5-7.5 g:30-45 g:400-500 ml:0-100 ml:50-100 ml.
