NOVELTY - Performing soil mediated photocatalytic remediation involves pre-treating waste water through coagulation cum flocculation for removing the scum and large particles, where coagulation and flocculation is performed by mixing acidic and alkaline effluents in 1:35 ratio and pH of acidic effluent is less than 2 while pH of alkaline effluent is 9-11, filtering soil/sand of the effluent, where soil/sand is modified by the treatment/activation of acid and alkali and the soil/sand comprises uniform size, oxidizing effluent in advance by zinc oxide/graphene oxide (ZnO/GO) nanostructure, synthesizing over stainless steel sheet, photocatalyzing in a photo catalytic reactor for reducing the chemical oxygen demand (COD) level and color of the wastewater in the presence of sunlight, and removing the contaminants through polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber, treating under activated carbon filter to obtain the treated water. USE - Method for performing soil mediated photocatalytic remediation used for the treatment of industrial wastewater. ADVANTAGE - The method has high removal efficiency of pollutants, and removes the nonbiodegradable pollutants from wastewater. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) a photo catalytic reactor, which comprises 2 symmetrical photocatalytic chambers/reactors for carrying out dye degradation in industrial waste water, where chamber comprises 4 sections with walls of the material comprising transparent material based on acrylic sheet, where each section has 35 sheets arranged in series separated by a gap of 9 cm between adjacent sheets, which are inclined to 65 degrees for maximizing solar contact time; and (2) a method for operating the photo catalytic reactoras, which involves filling the water to be treated in the first photocatalytic tank/reactor for the photocatalysis treatment for 2 hours, receiving the water treated from the first photocatalytic tank/reactor by the second reactor for further treatment for 2 hours, transferring the treated water to a storage tank for filtration by PAN fiber filter followed by activated carbon filter to obtain the treated water.
