NOVELTY - Liquid absorbing body comprises amorphous carbon and 60-90 %mass crystalline carbon particles dispersed in the amorphous carbon, where the degree of orientation as determined by a wide-angle X-ray scattering method is 75% or more, and the open porosity as determined in accordance with JIS R 1634 (1998) is 10% or more. USE - The liquid absorbing body is used as a liquid absorbing block body (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The liquid absorbing body has excellent liquid absorbing property. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) a liquid absorbing block body having the liquid absorbing body and having either cylindrical or prismatic liquid absorbing liquids bundled and integrated, or sheet-shaped liquid absorbing liquids stacked and integrated; (2) a method for using a liquid absorbing body or a liquid absorbing block body comprising impregnating the liquid with at least a part of the liquid absorbing liquid or the liquid absorbing block body; and (3) a method for producing a liquid absorbing body comprising mixing amorphous carbon precursor and crystalline carbon particles to prepare a precursor composition, extruding the precursor composition, and heat-treating the extruded precursor composition.
