NOVELTY - The LED has: (a) a first contact; (b) a first semiconductor layer disposed over the first contact; (c) a second semiconductor layer disposed over the first semiconductor layer, where the second semiconductor layer has at least one hexagonal boron nitride quantum well and at least one hexagonal boron nitride quantum barrier; (d) a third semiconductor layer disposed over the second semiconductor layer; and (e) a second contact positioned over the third semiconductor layer. The first contact includes graphene or gold. The second contact includes nickel or cobalt. The first semiconductor layer includes a p-type doping. The p-type doping is performed using beryllium or magnesium. The third semiconductor layer includes an n-type doping, which is performed using silicon. USE - LED used to disinfect surfaces. ADVANTAGE - LED ensures high efficacy for disinfecting germs. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a 2-dimensional UV LED based on hexagonal boron nitride.
