NOVELTY - Production of fouling resistant polyetherimide mixed matrix membranes involves preparing base polymer polyetherimide from Sigma Aldrich, introducing 0-1 wt.% carboxylated graphene oxide into the polymer dope solution, adding polymeric additives to provide membrane flexibility, enhanced binding and dispersion of nanofiller in the membrane matrix, adding low molecular weight pore forming additives to provide better performance of membrane, casting the membrane, and preparing a bore fluid or coagulation bath, which comprises mixture of organic liquid or water. USE - Production of fouling resistant polyetherimide mixed matrix membranes. Uses include but are not limited to separation of solutes from liquid feed solutions, humic acid removal, oil emulsion separation, protein recovery from pharmaceutical wastes, and hemodialysis. ADVANTAGE - The method effectively produces membrane with improved mechanical properties, thermal properties, antibacterial adhesion to reduce bio-fouling, and flux recovery ratio. The nano filler effectively tunes the performance of the membrane. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Production of fouling resistant polyetherimide mixed matrix membranes involves preparing base polymer polyetherimide from Sigma Aldrich, introducing 0-1 wt.% carboxylated graphene oxide into the polymer dope solution, adding polymeric additives to provide membrane flexibility, enhanced binding and dispersion of nanofiller in the membrane matrix, adding low molecular weight pore forming additives to provide better performance of membrane-polyethylene glycol and polyvinylpyrrolidone, casting the membrane as flat sheet or hollow fiber membrane, and preparing a bore fluid or coagulation bath, which comprises mixture of organic liquid or water. The composition base polymer is prepared depending on the type of membrane to be produced. The casting is dry/wet casting technique or wet/wet casting technique.
