NOVELTY - The graphene-based fiber comprises: a starting strand (105); and a set of coatings of aligned graphene comprising a first coating of aligned graphene axially offset at a first angle (alpha) from an axis of the starting strand, a second coating of aligned graphene formed over the first coating and axially offset at a second angle from the axis of the starting strand, and a next coating of aligned graphene formed over a preceding coating and axially offset at a next angle from the axis of the strand. The set of coatings further comprises a set of winding layers of a set of graphene ribbons. USE - The graphene-based fiber is useful for manufacturing a graphene-based yarn (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The graphene-based fiber has high tensile strength. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The graphene-based fiber comprises: a starting strand (105); and a set of coatings of aligned graphene comprising a first coating of aligned graphene axially offset at a first angle (alpha) from an axis of the starting strand, a second coating of aligned graphene formed over the first coating and axially offset at a second angle from the axis of the starting strand, and a next coating of aligned graphene formed over a preceding coating and axially offset at a next angle from the axis of the starting strand. The set of coatings further comprises a set of winding layers of a set of graphene ribbons. The carbon nanotubes further comprise a metallic chirality or a semiconducting chirality. The first angle is about 0 degrees , the second angle is about 45 degrees , and the next angle comprises a third angle of 135 degrees and a fourth angle of 90 degrees . The starting strand comprises a metal and/or a polymer. The first coating further comprises a first twist direction of the aligned graphene. The second coating further comprises a second, opposite twist direction of the aligned graphene. The next coating further comprises the first or the second twist direction of the aligned graphene.
