▎ 摘  要

NOVELTY - A reinforced biodegradable polymer nanocomposite comprises polymer matrix and functionalized graphene nanoplatelets or graphene-like material dispersed in the polymer matrix, where graphene nanoplatelets or graphene-like material comprises sheets that are functionalized with functional groups attached at edges of the sheets. USE - A reinforced biodegradable polymer nanocomposite for synthetic barrier film used for packaging materials, biomedical industries, construction, etc., where packaging materials include sachets, pouches, bottles, and containers. ADVANTAGE - A mechanically strong and eco-friendly biodegradable plastic material can be obtained. The cheap and highly efficient manufacturing method provides improved and reliable plastics that are recyclable, degradable, durable, sustainable, and light-weight, and employs edge functionalizing graphene nanoplatelets or graphene-like material while still preserving the superior properties of graphene nanoplatelets or graphene-like material as a two-dimensional structure with minimal defects within the crystal lattice structure. Synthetic barrier film made from the reinforced biodegradable polymer nanocomposite possess mechanical strength and high barrier properties, providing protection to content, such as liquid, food item, etc. Moreover, the packaging materials manufactured using the synthetic barrier film have excellent mechanical properties and may be manufactured with less quantity of synthetic barrier film, reducing the overall plastic content, as well as their thickness. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for manufacture of reinforced biodegradable polymer nanocomposite which involves (a) activating edge sites on molecular sheets of the graphene nanoplatelets or graphene-like material; (b) functionalizing the graphene nanoplatelets or graphene-like material with functional groups; and (c) dispersing the functionalized graphene nanoplatelets or functionalized graphene-like material in the polymer matrix to form the reinforced biodegradable polymer nanocomposite.
