NOVELTY - Composite carbon material comprises a carbon material (A) and a carbonaceous coating layer (B) for coating the surface, where the amount of hydrogen molecules desorbed from the composite carbon material ( mu mol/g) as measured by temperature rise desorption gas analysis at a temperature rise of 1250-1400 degrees C, and the amount of carbon dioxide molecules desorbed from the composite carbon material ( mu mol/g) as measured by temperature rise desorption gas analysis at a temperature rise of 1250-1400 degrees C (C/D) are used of 1000-2000C, for the composite carbon material. USE - The composite carbon material is useful in a negative electrode active material for a negative electrode in a lithium-ion secondary battery (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The composite carbon material has excellent low temperature charge/discharge rate characteristics, high temperature storage characteristics, high temperature cycle characteristics, low internal resistance, high coulomb efficiency, electronic conductivity, internal resistance, high temperature storing characteristic, discharge capacity, electrical resistance, chemical stability, high mechanical strength and durability, and is stable on surface of carbon material. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) a negative electrode active material comprising the composite carbon material; and (2) a negative electrode comprising the negative electrode active material and a current collector.
