NOVELTY - A composite anode active material comprises a core comprising a lithium transition metal oxide, and a shell arranged along the surface of core. The shell comprises a metal oxide (I), a carbon-based material, and a doped phosphorus element. Metal oxide (I) is arranged in the carbon-based material matrix. USE - Composite active material is used for positive electrode of lithium battery (all claimed). Uses include but are not limited to electric vehicle, energy storage system, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, electric bicycle, and power tool. ADVANTAGE - The composite anode active material is capable of inhibiting side reactions and improving reversibility of the electrode reaction to prevent deterioration of lithium performance, thus improving high-temperature cycle characteristics of the lithium battery and suppressing increase in internal resistance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A composite anode active material comprises a core comprising a lithium transition metal oxide, and a shell arranged along the surface of core. The shell comprises a metal oxide of formula: Ma1Ob(I), a carbon-based material, and a doped phosphorus element. Metal oxide (I) is arranged in the carbon-based material matrix. a1=0-3 (excluding 0); b=0-4 (excluding 0 and 4);and M=at least one metal chosen from groups 2-13, 15 and 16 of periodic table of elements. (i) When a1 is 1-3, b is not an integer. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for manufacture of the composite anode active material, which involves providing the lithium transition metal oxide, providing a composite of metal oxide (I), carbon-based material, and doped phosphorus element, and mechanically milling the lithium transition metal oxide and composite.
