NOVELTY - Preparation of uranium oxycarbide microspheres involves (1) oxidizing metal uranium or its compounds to triuranium octoxide, dissolving into uranyl nitrate solution with nitric acid, (2) uniformly dispersing carbon material in the uranyl nitrate solution, (3) formulating thickener, mixing with carbonaceous material uranyl nitrate solution to disperse gel, (4) aging, washing, drying, roasting, reduction, and sintering. The metal uranium in the form of uranium ingots, turning chips, or metal powder. Uranium compounds can be uranium dioxide, uranium trioxide and uranium oxide. The process of oxidation of metal uranium or uranium compound to triuranium octoxide is realized in muffle furnace, and the atmosphere required for the oxidation reaction is oxygen or air. The calcination and oxidation reaction of metal uranium and uranium compounds is performed at 500-800 degrees C for 0.5-5 hours until it is completely oxidized to triuranium octoxide powder. USE - Preparation of uranium oxycarbide microspheres. ADVANTAGE - The method produces product with excellent spherical degree and uniform size.
