NOVELTY - Preparation of graphene oxide by Hummers method includes adding graphite powder with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and phosphoric acid (H3PO4) mixed solution, under ice bath condition, adding potassium permanganate (KMnO4), keeping the mixed solution at 50-60 degrees C, stirring, cooling to room temperature, pouring icy deionized water, under blending condition, adding hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), filtering the mixture, centrifugally washing the filter residue with hydrochloric acid (HCl), adding the resultant into dialysis bag, dialyzing, putting in vacuum freeze drier and vacuum drying. USE - Preparation of graphene oxide by Hummers method (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method provides graphene oxide, which contains carboxy, hydroxy, and epoxy functional group, where carbon and oxygen mass ratio is 2.0, thickness of 1.0 nm, and interlayer distance of 0.97 nm. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparation of graphene oxide by Hummers method comprises adding 3-4 g graphite powder into 500 ml three-necked bottle, adding H2SO4 and H3PO4 mixed solution, under ice bath condition, adding 18 g KMnO4, keeping the mixed solution at 50-60 degrees C, stirring for 10-12 hours, cooling to room temperature, pouring 350-400 ml icy deionized water, under blending condition, adding 3 ml H2O2, where mixed liquid turns from purple black into bright yellow, filtering the mixture, centrifugally washing the filter residue with HCl at 10000-12000 revolutions/minute for 5 times, adding the resultant into dialysis bag, dialyzing for 3 weeks, putting in vacuum freeze drier, vacuum drying to constant weight, obtaining brown graphene oxide powder, weighing 1 g graphene oxide powder, dispersing in deionized water, metering the volume to 1000 ml, and ultrasonically processing to obtain graphene oxide dispersion liquid with concentration of 1 mg/ml.
