NOVELTY - A nanocomposite flame retardant comprises a core portion comprising nanosilica and carbon nanomaterial, and a coating layer formed on the surface of core portion, which is made of metal hydroxide, potassium hydrogen carbonate, or their combination. USE - Nanocomposite flame retardant used for plastic products, fibers and paints. ADVANTAGE - The environmentally-friendly flame retardant has uniform flame retardant property even in an small amount, large specific surface area, and excellent mechanical property, dispersibility when mixed with a polymer, and thermal stability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for manufacture of the nanocomposite flame retardant, which involves (a) producing the nanosilica, (b) forming the core portion by mixing the nanosilica and carbon nanomaterial, and (c) forming the coating layer on the surface of core portion. The coating layer is made of metal hydroxide, potassium hydrogen carbonate, or their combination.
