NOVELTY - An acoustic matching layer (14) comprises an amorphous carbon, carbon particles dispersed in the amorphous carbon, and particles (p2) having higher density than the amorphous carbon. USE - Acoustic matching layer used for ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus (claimed) and ultrasonic image inspection apparatus. ADVANTAGE - The acoustic matching layer has uniformly dispersed particles and excellent workability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for manufacture of the acoustic matching layer, which involves mixing the carbon particles and particles (p2) with a carbon-containing resin to produce a precursor composition, and heat-treating the precursor composition in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to carbonize the carbon-containing resin.
