NOVELTY - The generator (10) has an activation device (26) provided with an energy converter (12) that is surrounded by gas and free of pyrotechnic materials, where the energy converter is designed when electrical current is applied to convert electrical energy directly into heat energy to release the heat energy suddenly for heating and expanding the gas surrounding the energy converter. The energy converter is provided with an open-porous structure based on interconnected carbon nanotubes, where the carbon nanotubes consist of graphene and/or partially oxidized graphene. The energy converter is designed as a pressure sensor for monitoring gas pressure, where the gas or gas mixture surrounding the energy converter contains inert gas, in particular argon, hydrogen and oxygen in reactive mixture. The activation device is assigned with a capacitor (62) that is connected to a power source. USE - Gas generator for a safety device (claimed) in a vehicle. ADVANTAGE - The generator can allow the energy converter to convert the electrical energy directly into the heat energy to releases the heat energy when the electric current is applied and ensure that the released heat energy suddenly heats and expands the gas surrounding the energy converter so as to provide a pyrotechnic-free gas generator main body.
