NOVELTY - A graphene-enabled hybrid particulate for use as cathode active material of alkali metal battery comprises a single sheet or sheets of graphene and fine selenium particles or coatings, having a diameter or thickness of 0.5 nm-10 mu m, and the graphene sheets and selenium particles or coatings are mutually bonded or agglomerated into the hybrid particulate containing an exterior graphene sheet or multiple exterior graphene sheets embracing the selenium particles or coatings, and the amount of graphene is 0.01-30 wt.%. USE - A graphene-enabled hybrid particulate for powder mass and alkali metal-selenium battery cathode used as cathode active material of alkali metal battery (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The hybrid particle provides alkali metal battery that delivers high energy density and high power density. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) graphene-enabled hybrid particulate for use as alkali metal battery cathode active material, comprising single sheet or sheets of graphene and single selenium particle, having a diameter or thickness 0.5 nm-30 mu m, and the graphene sheet or graphene sheets encapsulate the selenium particle and contain a pristine graphene material having less than or equal to 0.01 wt.% non-carbon elements or non-pristine graphene material having 0.01-20 wt.% non-carbon elements, where the non-pristine graphene is not graphene oxide or reduced graphene oxide and is selected from graphene fluoride, graphene chloride, graphene bromide, graphene iodide, hydrogenated graphene, nitrogenated graphene, boron-doped graphene, nitrogen-doped graphene, and/or chemically functionalized graphene, and the amount of graphene is 0.01-30 wt.%; and (2) alkali metal-selenium battery comprising anode, cathode, electrolyte in ionic contact with cathode and anode, where the cathode comprises the hybrid particulate.
