NOVELTY - Preparation of graphene-supported bismuth iodate photocatalyst comprises dissolving bismuth nitrate pentahydrate in deionized water and magnetically stirring; dissolving potassium iodate in solution prepared in first step and magnetically stirring; hydrothermally reacting at 160-200 degrees C for 8-12 hours, washing with deionized water and absolute ethanol, oven-drying at 80-90 degrees C for 12-18 hours, and grinding; dissolving bismuth oxyiodate powder in deionized water and magnetically stirring; dissolving graphene in the solution and magnetically stirring; and hydrothermal reacting at 160-200 degrees C for 8-12 hours, washing with deionized water and absolute ethanol, drying at 80-90 degrees C, and grinding. USE - The method is used for preparing graphene-supported bismuth iodate photocatalyst for photocatalytic oxidation of elemental mercury and photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The photocatalyst has high specific surface area and excellent photocatalytic performance.
