NOVELTY - Sensor device comprises region of graphene, and a polyaromatic molecule attached to and in electrical communication with the region of graphene. The polyaromatic molecule comprises a leaving group configured to be displaced by an amine group. USE - Sensor device used for detecting DNA and other target molecules (claimed). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) a method for detecting DNA and other target molecules contacting a sensor device with a sample; and measuring an electrical signal of the device related to an interaction between the detection moiety and the sample; and (2) a method for fabricating a detector device, which involves attaching a polyaromatic molecule to region of graphene so as to place the polyaromatic molecule into electrical communication with the region of graphene; attaching a detection moiety to the polyaromatic molecule; and (3) placing the region of graphene into electrical communication with electrode.
