NOVELTY - Method (M1) for detecting or quantifying hypoxanthine involves (a) reacting by adding a hypoxanthine-containing sample to a composition capable of detecting hypoxanthine containing xanthine oxidase, peroxidase or its analog and a chromogenic substrate, and (b) measuring the degree of color development of the composition to which the sample is added by absorbance, and detecting or quantifying hypoxanthine in the sample. USE - The method is useful for detecting or quantifying hypoxanthine, and measuring the elapsed time of cadaver (claimed), which is used in various fields including forensic investigation. ADVANTAGE - The method easily detects hypoxanthine with naked eye within a short period of time and without requiring expensive and large equipment, and uses simple analysis based on a color reaction signal. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: composition comprising xanthine oxidase, peroxidase or its analog, and a chromogenic substrate as active ingredients; and method (M2) for determining the elapsed time of a cadaver involving performing the above-mentioned method (M1) and measuring the elapsed time of the cadaver after death, where the sample is body fluid.
