NOVELTY - A supported nickel-based alloy catalyst comprises carrier and nickel-based alloy loaded on the carrier. The content of nickel-based alloy is 1-50 %mass and remaining is carrier. USE - Supported nickel-based alloy catalyst for preparing methyl glycolate by hydrogenating dimethyl oxalate. ADVANTAGE - The catalyst has stable structure, excellent thermal conductivity, high permeability, high conversion rate and selectivity, high activity, high mechanical strength, easy to mold, easy to fill, high flux, and low pressure drop. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A supported nickel-based alloy catalyst comprises carrier and nickel-based alloy loaded on the carrier. The content of nickel-based alloy is 1-50 %mass and remaining is carrier. The nickel-based alloy is of formula NixMy, where x is 1-10, y is 1-10 and M is metal comprising one of copper, palladium, silver, indium, tin and bismuth. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparation of the supported nickel-based alloy catalyst, which involves loading a composite oxide of nickel and metal (M) on a carrier to prepare a catalyst precursor, and carrying out reduction of the catalyst precursor.
