NOVELTY - A coated cathode active material comprises a cathode active material and a coating layer. The coating layer is derived from a phosphorus-containing compound (I). USE - Coated cathode active material used in slurry for forming cathode (all claimed) of secondary battery e.g. lithium-ion batteries and other metal ion batteries for consumer electronics, electric vehicles (EV) and grid energy storage. ADVANTAGE - The coated cathode active material provides battery having improved electrochemical performance by providing coating layer which reduces degradation of the cathode active material due to reaction with water. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A coated cathode active material comprises a cathode active material and a coating layer. The coating layer is derived from a phosphorus-containing compound of formula (I). An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for cathode slurry for secondary battery, which comprises the coated cathode active material, a binder material, and an aqueous solvent.
