NOVELTY - An elastic heat spreader film comprises a graphitic film prepared by performing graphitization of a polymer film or pitch film, and 0.001-30 wt.% elastomer or rubber that permeates into the graphitic film from at least a surface of the graphitic film. The graphitic film comprises graphitic crystals which are parallel to one another and parallel to a film plane, having an inter-graphene spacing of less than 0.34 nm. The graphitic film has a thermal conductivity of 600 W/mK or more, an electroconductivity of 4000 S/cm or more, and a physical density of more than 1.5 g/cm3, all are measured without the presence of a resin. The elastic heat spreader film has a fully recoverable tensile elastic strain of 2-100% and an in-plane thermal conductivity of 100-1750 W/mK. USE - Elastic heat spreader film is used for forming structural component used as load-bearing and thermal management element for electronic device (all claimed). Uses include but are not limited to smartphone, flat-screen television, tablet and laptop computer. ADVANTAGE - The elastic heat spreader film has desired thermal conductivity, structural integrity, tensile strength, tensile modulus, and electroconductivity. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for production of the elastic heat spreader film, which involves providing (i) film(s) of polymer or pitch, having a film thickness of 10 nm to 1 mm, heat-treating (ii) the film(s) of polymer or pitch at a graphitization temperature of more than 2000degrees Celsius in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to graphitize the film to obtain a porous graphitized film comprising a front surface and a back surface, immersing (iii) the porous graphitized film in a rubber or elastomer resin to obtain a rubber/elastomer-impregnated film, and compressing (iv) and consolidating the rubber/elastomer-impregnated film.
