NOVELTY - Functionalization of graphene material involves at least partially reacting graphene material with at least one silane (I) while the silane or silanes are mixed with the graphene material. USE - Functionalization of graphene material as filler, corrosion protection in coatings, for anti-icing, as active material and electrode material in batteries, in composite materials and foams to change mechanical, thermal, electrical and tribological properties and flame retardant, in tire rubber, in gear and/or motor oil, in metalworking, in membranes, in thermoplastics selected from standard thermoplastics, preferably polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, PVC, in technical thermoplastics, preferably polyethylene terephthalate, Poly(methyl methacrylate), polycarbonate, polyoxymethylene, polyamide, in high-performance thermoplastics, preferably polyphenylene sulfide, polyetheretherketone, polyethersulfone, in copolymers, elastomers, preferably silicones, more preferably room temperature vulcanizing rubber, high temperature vulcanized silicone, liquid silicone rubber, in polyurethanes, rubbers, preferably styrene butadiene rubber, butadiene rubber, natural rubber, in duromers, preferably polyurethanes, polyester resins, phenolic resins, epoxy resins, acrylate resins, silicone resins ,in solvents, preferably aprotic non-polar, aprotic-polar, protic solvents and in oils, preferably mineral oils, silicone oils and processing oils (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The graphene material produces product with improved flowability and increased bulk density and less dust produced during processing. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Functionalization of graphene material involves at least partially reacting graphene material with at least one silane of formula: Y'-Si(OR1)(OR2)(OR3) (I) while the silane or silanes are mixed with the graphene material. Y' = branched or unbranched alkyl, olefin or aryl or functional organic group chosen from carboxy, carbonyl, hydroperoxycarbonyl, haloyl, sulfo, sulfino, sulfeno, cyano, formyl, oxo, thioxo, hydroxy, amino, imino, hydrazino, epoxy, sulfanyl or fluoro;and R1-R3 = branched or unbranched alkyl or olefin or aryl. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for functionalized graphene material.
