▎ 摘 要
NOVELTY - Photodynamic therapy (p1) of cancer cells using graphene based quantum dots (QDs) comprises preparing graphene based QDs by electrochemical exfoliation of defect-induced graphite electrodes placed in an electrolyte, and exciting the prepared graphene based QDs with UV light of a predetermined wavelength and post placing the prepared graphene based QDs in the cancer cells. USE - The methods are useful for photodynamic therapy of cancer cells (claimed). The ability of excited graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQD) to treat cancer was tested in murine melanoma (B16F10) cell line using biological assay. The result showed that cells treated with graphene oxide quantum dots exhibited a cell viability of 0.1% at an UV light exposure for 4 minutes. ADVANTAGE - The methods kill the cancer cells, in in-vitro environment, by using the UV light is comparable to that obtained when laser is used, when the period of excitation (irradiation) is low. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for photodynamic therapy (p2) of cancer cells using graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) comprising preparing GOQDs by electrochemical exfoliation of defect-induced graphite electrodes placed in an electrolyte, and exciting the prepared GOQDs with UV light of a predetermined wavelength and post placing the prepared GOQDs in the cancer cells.
