NOVELTY - The system has an evaporative canister that is coupled to a fuel tank (12). A canister (30) contains a sorbent material capable of adsorbing hydrocarbons and selected from the group of activated Graphene- derivatives not limited to any of monolayer Graphene, few layered Graphene, Graphene oxide, reduced Graphene oxide, and functionalized Graphene. A vapor inlet is mounted on the canister connected to the fuel tank. A purge outlet is mounted the canister connected to an air induction system. The sorbent material adsorbs fuel vapors when the engine is not running and desorbs fuel vapors when the engine is running. The stamped or molded pellets and polymeric foam or felt layers expand into the canister in order to pack down the sorbent material to maintain an internal volume of the canister and enable proper absorption of the hydrocarbons. USE - Evaporative emissions control system for automobile for reducing evaporative emissions. ADVANTAGE - The graphene-derivatives are incorporated in a polymer in the form of any of pellets or foam that is used to maintain the canister volume and enable proper adsorption of fuel vapors in canister. The graphene adsorbent composition is produced through extrusion and cryodesiccation processes in order to maintain high surface area and optimal pore sizes for providing appropriate adsorbption and desorption for vaporized hydrocarbons. An organic polymer binder provides improved adhesion of the graphene adsorbent to a surface of the canister.
