NOVELTY - Load-type copper-based adsorbent comprises a carrier and an active component loaded on the carrier. The carrier is a porous carbon carrier. The active component is copper(I) chloride. The adsorbent comprises 20-60 wt.% copper(I) chloride. The adsorbent does not exhibits X-ray powder diffraction along with diffraction pattern in between 40 ° and 50 °. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface area of the adsorbent is greater than 500 m2/g. USE - The adsorbent is useful for carbon monoxide adsorption and desorption (claimed) for removal of trace carbon monoxide in fuel cell grade hydrogen. ADVANTAGE - The preparation method of the adsorbent: has simple operation, high solubility of raw materials, less water consumption, does not need to be dried for a long time, saves energy consumption, and produces adsorbent having high specific surface area and a high load of active components, is fully dispersed on the surface, and realizes the monodisperse structure of the active component, improves the adsorption performance and removal depth of the adsorbent for carbon monoxide when compared with the conventional impregnation method. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: Preparing load-type copper-based adsorbent, comprising (1) mixing the active component raw material with the carrier to obtain a mixture, where the particle size of the active component raw material is less than 1 mm, (2) spraying the mixture with water, and then calcining under an inert atmosphere to obtain final product, where the carrier is a porous carbon carrier, the active component raw material includes copper chloride, copper bromide, copper formate, copper acetate and/or copper citrate, the consumption of water is 0.7-2 times of the product of carrier quality and its water absorption rate; Carbon monoxide adsorption and desorption, comprising (a) contacting carbon monoxide with an adsorbent to obtain an adsorbent, (b) heating and/or vacuum extracting adsorbent obtained in step (a).
